New Delhi: The government is considering the possibility of a monsoon session of Parliament from the last week of August or the first week of September, in which members are present during the proceedings. Sources gave this information on Wednesday. However, sources also said that no final decision has been taken so far in view of the increasing cases of coronavirus and it will be difficult to clarify how the session will be conducted following the norms of social distance.

Sources in the government said that the duration of the session and the method of organizing it will depend on the current situation at the beginning of the session. However, the government intends to hold a plenary session.

Sources said that there are many ordinances that need to be introduced in Parliament, so the session will be of normal duration. A senior government official said that the monsoon session of Parliament would definitely begin before September 22 as there could be no more than six months gap between the two sessions.

The budget session of Parliament was scheduled till April 3, but before that, the session was postponed indefinitely on 23 March. Sources said that several options are being considered. One of these options is that the Lok Sabha should be held in the Central Hall while the Rajya Sabha should be held in the Lok Sabha.

Meanwhile, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu have been discussing holding monsoon session of Parliament with criteria like social distance. Both Birla and Naidu have also considered the possibility of a 'Digital Parliament' as an option in the future.
