Defense Ministry approves purchase of 21 new MiG-29 aircraft and 12 Sukhoi fighter jets from Russia

New Delhi: India will buy 21 new MiG-29 aircraft from Russia, between China and China. The central government has approved this. It was decided in the meeting of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh Rajnath Singh. Along with this, 12 Sukhoi fighter aircraft will also be purchased. 38,900 crore proposals have been approved.

The Ministry of Defense approved the proposal to acquire 33 new fighter aircraft from Russia, including upgrading of 59 existing MiG-29s, including 12 SU-30 MKIs and 21 MiG-29s. The total cost of these projects will be Rs 18148 crore.

 Along with this, the Ministry of Defense also approved the acquisition of 248 Astra Beyond Visual Range Air to Air Missiles for the Indian Air Force and Navy. The design of a 1000 km strike range land-attack cruise missile has also been cleared by DRDO.


The Defense Acquisition Council approved proposals worth Rs 38900 out of which Rs 31130 crore would be acquired from the Indian industry. The Pinaka Rocket Launcher, BMP Combat Vehicle Upgrade and Software Defined Radio for the Army have been approved.
